RIP Jonathan Ball
It is with huge sorrow; we advise the passing of our friend and colleague, Jon Ball. Jon has been taken far to soon, as he was only 52, leaving behind a close family including his three sons, Aiden, Oliver and Aaron. Jon had been ill for some time, with a very rare condition, Lymphangiectasia.
Jon Ball was a long-term member of the Epsom and Quality Line team. He started as a Driver, later moving to various positions, including Bus Services Manager, as our bus operation grew. He was a vital part of the senior management team, with his last role, before the company finished, in charge of compliance, at which he excelled. Jon enthusiastically recruited much of his family to join the firm, emphasising we were always a “family” business in every meaning of that word.
Steve Whiteway paid tribute “I find it hard to believe Jon is no longer here, he was always a hard worker and nothing phased him. If we had an on-road emergency, Jon was the first to get to the incident, day or night, he cared so much about those he was responsible for. He pioneered our use of CCTV and driver monitoring, drew up the route assessments required by the authorities and wrote much of our staff handbook. He studied for his H&S and Transport Manager qualifications in his own time and passed with flying colours. He also gained us the accolade of Investors in People. There wasn’t much that Jon couldn’t turn his hand to and always with determination. Jon sometimes ruffled feathers, but only because he was doing his job, which he always did without fear or favour. He had a great sense of humour and had starring roles in our various films over the years, you can see them on You Tube”.
“I really can’t do justice to Jon Ball in words alone; he was always there for me and everyone he met. My heart goes out to his sons particularly. However, Jon leaves a legacy which will live on in our memories and for which his family should be very proud. Rest in peace Jon and thank you for everything, from a very grateful boss. It was a privilege to know you”.
